Abstract
Phosphorusȱavailabilityȱisȱincreasedȱthroughȱtheȱuseȱofȱphosphateȱsolubilizingȱbacteriaȱforȱenhancingȱ
theȱforageȱyieldȱandȱimprovingȱtheȱqualityȱofȱberseemȱfodder.ȱAȱfieldȱexperimentȱwasȱconductedȱinȱtheȱ
fodderȱfarmȱofȱWestȱBengalȱUniversityȱofȱAnimalȱandȱFisheryȱSciences,ȱBelgachiaȱduringȱ rabi ,ȱseasonȱ
2013-14.ȱTheȱcropȱwasȱsownȱwithȱinoculatedȱ(I 1 )ȱandȱun-inoculatedȱ(I 0 )ȱseedsȱofȱberseemȱ( Trifolium
alexandrinum ȱL.)ȱof varietyȱwardenȱandȱwasȱgivenȱphosphorusȱfertilizerȱatȱtheȱlevelsȱ40ȱ(P 1 ),ȱ60ȱ(P 2 ),ȱ80ȱ
(P 3 )ȱandȱ100ȱ(P 4 )ȱkgȱP O ȱha -1 ȱinȱtheȱformȱofȱSSPȱinȱRCBDȱwithȱthreeȱreplicationsȱinȱplotsȱofȱnetȱsizeȱ6ȱmȱXȱ

2ȱm.ȱPSBȱinoculationȱsignificantlyȱincreasesȱgreenȱforageȱandȱdryȱmatterȱyieldȱbyȱincreasingȱplantȱheight,ȱ
no.ȱofȱbranches,ȱleaf-stemȱratio,ȱetc.ȱAllȱtheȱqualityȱtraitsȱexceptȱashȱcontentȱandȱdryȱmatterȱpercentageȱ
wereȱsignificantlyȱaffectedȱbyȱPSBȱinoculation.ȱHigherȱgreenȱforageȱyieldȱ(320.4ȱqtȱha -1 ),ȱdryȱmatterȱyieldȱ
(39.2ȱqtȱha -1 ),ȱcrudeȱproteinȱyieldȱ(7.89ȱqtȱha -1 ),ȱcrudeȱproteinȱpercentageȱ(19.28%),ȱethylȱextractȱ(3.32%)ȱ
andȱnitrogenȱfreeȱextractȱ(41.75%)ȱwereȱrecordedȱfromȱtheȱplotsȱinoculatedȱwithȱPSB.ȱApplicationȱofȱ
phosphorusȱfertilizersȱsignificantlyȱinfluencedȱtheȱgreenȱforageȱandȱdryȱmatterȱyieldȱofȱberseem,ȱleaf-
stemȱratio,ȱetc.ȱthoughȱplantȱheightȱandȱno.ȱofȱbranchesȱwereȱnot-significant.ȱAllȱtheȱqualityȱparameters
i.e. ȱCP,ȱCF,ȱEE,ȱNFE,ȱexceptȱashȱpercentageȱwereȱsignificantlyȱinfluencedȱbyȱphosphorusȱapplication.ȱ
Bestȱresultsȱwereȱobtainedȱwithȱ80ȱkgȱP O ȱha -1ȱ inȱallȱtheȱcases.ȱRegardingȱinteractionȱeffect,ȱhigherȱ
