Abstract
Aȱfieldȱinvestigationȱwasȱconductedȱtoȱdetermineȱdissipationȱbehaviourȱinȱsoilȱandȱterminalȱresiduesȱ
ofȱmetribuzinȱinȱpotatoȱcropȱappliedȱatȱhalfȱtheȱrecommendedȱdoseȱ(0.25ȱkg.ȱha -1 ),ȱrecommendedȱdoseȱ
(0.50ȱkg.ȱha -1 )ȱandȱdoubleȱtheȱrecommendedȱdoseȱ(1.00ȱkg.ȱha -1 ).ȱSoilȱsamplesȱatȱdifferentȱtimeȱintervalsȱ
afterȱherbicideȱsprayȱandȱpotatoȱtuberȱsamplesȱatȱtheȱmaturityȱofȱcropȱwereȱcollected,ȱprocessedȱandȱ
subjectedȱtoȱmetribuzinȱresidueȱanalysisȱbyȱaȱvalidatedȱgasȱchromatographyȱmethodȱwithȱanȱacceptedȱ
recoveryȱofȱaboveȱ80%.ȱInȱallȱherbicideȱtreatments,ȱmoreȱthanȱ90%ȱofȱappliedȱherbicideȱinȱsoilȱdissipatedȱ
withinȱ45ȱdaysȱafterȱherbicideȱapplication.ȱMetribuzinȱresiduesȱinȱpotatoȱtubersȱatȱtheȱtimeȱofȱharvestȱ
wereȱbelowȱdetectableȱlevels.ȱThisȱindicatedȱthatȱtheȱmetribuzinȱdidȱnotȱleaveȱanyȱresiduesȱinȱpotatoȱ
tuberȱatȱanyȱofȱtheȱappliedȱdoses.ȱFromȱtheȱstudy,ȱitȱmayȱbeȱconcludedȱthatȱpreȱemergenceȱapplicationȱ
ofȱmetribuzinȱinȱpotatoȱforȱweedȱmanagementȱcouldȱbeȱconsideredȱsafe,ȱasȱitsȱresiduesȱwereȱbelowȱtheȱ
prescribedȱMRLȱ(0.05ȱmg.ȱkg -1 ).
