At the various part of the book, we present substantial plates and figures, partly as a supplement to the empirical arguments presented here, but also general information which might be of interest to the reader. Since we do discuss in reasonable detail the nature of sustainable development in agriculture faced in India at this time, there is some possibility of treating this book as an introduction to aspects of the sustainable agricultural development and environment.
The broad perspective presented here, we believe, has some relevance in understanding the obstacles to sustainable agricultural development and protection of environment and the basic failure of people understanding to remove them. The policy limitations relate not only to governmental discussions, but also to the nature of public discussion, particularly the potential for criticizing these decisions. So much energy and wrath have been spent on attacking or defending the so-called development phenomenon in policy has received astonishingly little atrention in these debates
