This book is based on research conducted on gender history in youth movements and democratic politics in Assam. To facilitate the above, an effort is made to analyze the women’s voices in the Assam Movement led by All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) from 1979-85. I am grateful to Dr. Polly Vauquline, Associate Professor and former Head of the Department, Department of Women’s Studies, Gauhati University, Guwahati, for her guidance. I am also grateful to Professor Apurba K. Baruah, Retired Professor, Department of Political Science, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong for his guidance. I am also thankful to entire faculties of the Women’s Studies Department, Gauhati University and Political Science Department of North-Eastern Hill University for the valuable suggestions during the period of study. My deep appreciation also goes to Professor Shiela Bora and Dr. Meeta Deka of the History Department, Gauhati University for providing valuable insights to the study.
