Climatic conditions in the tropical countries like India remain favourable practically throughout the year for growing different crops, provided water supply is available through natural precipitation or can be made available through irrigation facilities. Multiple cropping, mixed cropping and intercropping systems have been adopted as an insurance against failure of crops due to seasonal conditions or attack of pests and diseases. However, the initial step is to carry out intensive studies on cropping systems as a whole. Hence, the present need is to bring the cropping pattern into practice with clear-cut recommendations for each agroclimatic zones of the Country. Modern concept of cropping system is based on the principal of effective utilization of available natural resources (water, nutrient, light etc.) for sustainable crop production. Studies carried out during the last few decades have generated immense valuable data on cropping systems. Authors have made an effort to collect, collate and present the available data in a systematic manner in the present book entitled 'New Strategies and Approaches in Cropping System'. In this book various latest strategies and approaches of sustainable cropping system that could be adopted is elucidated. Hope, this book will be useful to UG and PG students, teachers and research workers. Moreover, students preparing for competitive examinations like JRF, ARS, NET, and Entrance Examination of various Universities in the professional subject 'Agronomy' can get benefit on reading this book.
